Do you ever wonder how successful bloggers became successful? Emily Austin of The Waiting (http://notthehardestpart.com) started blogging in 2011, and by 2014 her blog had over 13,000 followers. In 2014, she was also selected as a BlogHer Voice of the Year and landed a job as a communications specialist for a local non-profit. Not bad, right? So how did she manage it?

Born and raised in Memphis, TN, Emily is a gentle person who is funny, loves to write, and yearns for connection in a way that has served her well in her blogging career. When she writes about trying to blog, her daughter’s 8-month birthday, or finding your people, Emily does so with empathy, frankness, and humor. You get the feeling that she’s a lot like you; she’s got some thoughts, and she just happens to write them down…

Awesome! Your blog came in handy before I was pregnant and for everything afterwards. Following your journey gave me a realistic outlook. Congratulations!

Emily, will you be one of my BFFs? Seriously, that must be what so many people feel when they meet you for the first time, whether at your blog or in person. Yesterday, I was beyond touched by your presentation. Your genuineness, kindness, and bravery simply shined, emanated from the full stage and person-to-person. One of my favorite take-aways is that I’m emboldened to keep doing what I’m doing as far as really caring about my blogging and social media community via comments and visiting their blogs and feeds. Yes, this will take away time doing other things at my blog (such as posting more often or obsessing about my poor spelling) yet authentic one-to-one connections and sharing kindness matters. Matters deeply. Safe travels and all my best to you and your family.
