Remember the Time…we had important news AND a writing prompt?

Good morning, Remember the Timers! (Isn’t that so much better than Nostalgiaphiles?) I know you guys absolutely luuuuuurve tuning in on Monday for these posts where I dictate what you are going to write about this week, but all good elective mandates must come to an end. This is the last Monday RTT post you will be seeing because Kelly and I are changing up Remember the Time protocol a little bit. Why? Well, it’s mostly because we both felt that while we love RTT, it was starting to dominate our blogs more than we liked. Blogging should be enjoyable and when it starts to feel like a chore, it’s time to reevaluate things. Or eat an entire ice cream cake. Let’s go with reevaluation. It’s healthier.

First on the chopping block were the Monday theme announcements. Feel free to take a moment.

dwight-schrute-o

Here’s the new gameplan: instead of posting twice a week for Remember the Time (Monday for the theme and Thursday for our posts that open the linkup), Kelly and I will announce the week’s theme on Thursday along with our own posts that respond to it. This jumbo-sized post will include all the information you normally get on Monday, and it will also help stave off Kelly’s and my blogging burnout for a little while longer. This is good because the world needs to have up-to-the-minute coverage of my relationship with Pinterest that only my blog can provide, and I need to have my schedule clear for these highly important posts.

Also, the linkup will not close on Sunday at midnight each week as it has been. Instead, it will continue through Wednesday of the following week.

If you need a refresher on the new schedule and guidelines, you can always find them by clicking on the Remember the Time tab at the top of the blog.

This week will be totally normal, and the changes will take effect the week of October 28.

Got it? Good. ;D

Now, onto this week’s theme.

Halloween is less than two weeks away, and mischief is in the air. For me, mischief is just sneaking off to McDonalds and spending a dolla fitty on a hot fudge sundae without anyone in my family knowing, but there was a time when I was a tad more deviant. We’re guessing that you have some similar stories. Ergo, for this week’s Remember the Time, Kelly and I want you to tell us about a time (or times…lists are fun!) when you broke a rule, or better yet, a law.

Write your post anytime this week* and then check back here and at Are You Finished Yet? on Thursday to link up with us. We can’t wait to see your posts!

*If you write your post before Thursday, send me the link via Facebook or Twitter so I can publicize it before the linkup officially begins on Thursday. This is a great way to get a little extra traffic for your post! ;D

Like me on Facebook? You should totally like me on Facebook. It’s like a warm puppy in your heart. Or bacon. Or bail money.

I remember when Used Car lots sold horses and low mileage dinosaurs.

It’s good to get your priorities set so you have time for all of your blogging life. And let’s be honest, too much demanding routine makes it suck. ;)

I completely agree. The last thing I need is to complicate something that should remain simple and fun.

Em/Ke (since we’re on a 2-character name basis now) – there are other things you can consider that will help alleviate the pressures. Think ‘job share’ and you’ll already jump to where I’m going. You could swap weeks where Kelly takes the ball and then the next week you take the ball. You might even like the surprise element in there if you don’t coordinate the theme with each other. You could swap months. You could announce 2 themes at once with the 2nd one plotted out 2 weeks out. Need more? Call me anytime…this is what I do for a living…well, it’s part of it when I’m not mopping up after others. Just keep them in mind…catch ya soon

All good suggestions we can keep in mind for the future. I’m thinking what we have worked out now will hopefully be just the right balance. We both love writing the RTT posts…it was just that extra post on Monday where we announced the prompt that was causing the problem. We both always felt this need to make those announcement posts interesting/clever/entertaining, because who wants to waste a blog post? But it just got to be daunting. Speaking for myself, weekends are always really busy, and every Sunday night I would have that moment where I’d say, “Crap! I still need to write an RTT announcement post.” When you start mixing the words “need” and “blog post”, there is a problem…unless there is money attached to the equation :)

Well said! “Need” and “blog post” are two phrases that should not be mentioned in the same sentence.

I defer to Ke. Everything she just said. ;D

OH and I”ve done some serious stuff in my youth….not sure how deep I want to go on this one. :( Might have to save some for the movie version (or hope I outlive those who might get hurt)

Well, if the post doesn’t get written, be sure to save me a seat at the screening of the Prytania movie! ;D

I have a tame one I think I can admit to now :)

Hope law enforcement isn’t monitoring this week.
I’ll just sit this one out…

We all know you’re the nark.

Only by virtue of experience. ;)

Damn. We were supposed to reevaluate? I ate the whole ice cream cake. #miscommunication #feelingbloated #stillworthit

#feelingbloated needs to be tattooed on my body.

If we ever hang out together in real life and get totally wasted, we’ll go get twin tattoos.

    2. The Waiting's avatar

We can reevaluate and still eat the whole cake. I have decided.

Ohh this could bring out some GOOD stories! I like it :)

    1. The Waiting's avatar

I certainly hope so. Or at least get some leverage on some people.

Phew! I needed more time to participate each week. I totally get the announcement post angst– it’s why I moved ForThePromptless over to the other blog. It just seemed like it was taking up so much mental space! :)

It has definitely crossed my mind to just start a whole new blog for just RTT since it has started to color this blog a little too much. Ahh, First World problems ;D I’m glad the changes will help you out too!

      1. rarasaur's avatar

Yep, it dropped FTP participation down to 25% of what it was– so I don’t know if I recommend the move from a statistical point of view, but — I felt so free! Haha :D

So, I’m kinda glad you are getting rid of the monday announcement of the theme. It was confusing my already cluttered mama brain! So, I think I’ll do a better job this week. By nature, I’m a rule-follower, so I can share like 1 of 2 stories here, but that’s OK. It will be fun. :)

    1. The Waiting's avatar

I am a rule-follower too, so my story is probably going to be pretty tame too. I may just steal one of my ex boyfriend’s stories about spending a night in Mexican prison and try to pass it off as my own.

      1. Perfection Pending's avatar

Umm. Yes. Please share that story! :)

  10. Holli's avatar

I’m a rule follower as well (and a rule enforcer in a not so long ago life-another story for another time) but my brother? Man, now he’s lived the life…I digress. I will go think on it over an ice cream cake.

Good call, no need to be a slave to the blog hop!

Ironically, writing of a time I broke a rule or law would require breaking a promise I made to the family to cut back on blogging.
Oh well, at least I have time to visit. Thanks for making the trip here worthwhile.
